Our cousin Shirley
Ann Konsela Grenawalt answered a question which was on the minds of many of us
when she wrote the following:
Barbara Konsela
was born on November 30, 1919 and died on December 10, 1919. She is buried in the St. Boniface Cemetary at
Waumandee, WI. However she had a flat
grave stone and I think it has sunk into the ground and is covered with
grass. I know the approximate area where
it is.
There is a
story that Dad (Valentine) always told me about her. It seems that there was a big snow storm
around the time of her birth and/or death.
Anyway Grandpa Robby made his way through the storm to one of the neighbors
who had a phone to call the priest and the doctor. Apparently this phone hadn’t worked for some
time but the neighbor said you’re welcome to try. Grandpa got through to the priest, received
instructions on how to conditionally baptize Barbara and asked the priest to
call the doctor and send him out to the farm.
Father said he would. Grandpa
hung up the phone and then tried to call the doctor himself. The phone was once again dead. According to what my dad told me, that phone
never worked after that. But Grandpa did
baptize Barbara. +++
