Do you Want to Help ???

The following is a list of help we could use.    If you are interested, please tell any one of the Planning Team what you would like to do.  We want to have persons designated for these tasks ahead of time, so call us as soon as you know.  

Before the Day of the Gathering

·       We’d like some cousins to bring a few balloons.

·       We’d like one or two cousins, male or female, to coordinate with each other and ask other cousins who have gardens to bring a bouquet of flowers to deck out the tables, etc.  Once we know who these two people are we will let you know so you may arrange with them what you will bring.  Like to coordinate?  Let me know soon. 

·        (There is no need to buy flowers since some cousins grow many beautiful flowers.  A bouquet will be at the entrance, on the food table, on each dining table, on each display table and at the podium for the MC, and on the dining room tables.   We’d like mostly small bouquets for the tables, a couple medium to large bouquets.   Bring all flowers in vases with your name on the vase since we don’t have vases here.     We want you to please take them back with you when you leave.   Otherwise we won’t know what to do with them.  You may donate your bouquet to the cousin who admires it most if you want.)

The day of and during the Gathering

We want every cousin to add something they brought to display to their family’s table and help their Family Table look nice.   There will be a special acknowledgement for the family whose display table is the most interesting, has the most appealing display, is the nicest looking and has the most informative display.  Whatever you bring, please mark it with your name.  We don’t want anyone to lose anything.  

We’d like one or two people to help with the following, sign up if you would enjoy doing something:

·       We’d like one cousin to set up 4 signs along the highway just before getting into Arcadia from both directions.   To be done before people arrive on that day.  Albert Konsela will do this.

·       We’d like someone to come early and help with decorating.

·       We’d like someone to help get the tables ready—set.

·       We’d like one cousin to buy ice (we pay) in town and set it up as directed by a team member.

·       Diane Adank Konsela will bring some small vases (just in case) and some tea candles.

·       We’d like one cousin to say the prayer before the meal.

·       We’d like one or two male or female cousins or spouses to monitor the food table throughout the day so the table is always neat and clean, looks nice and is covered and/or refrigerated if necessary.   This can be shared so one person doesn’t do it all day.

·       We’d like one cousin or spouse to help with signing in people as they arrive, making sure they have a name tag and the “Trivia Sheet” with a pen.  

   The day of the Gathering--when it is over:

·       We’d like 2-3 people to help clear and wipe tables.

·       We’d like 2-3 people so see that the kitchen is clean and clear of anything we used.

·       Sweep the floor.

·       2-3 people to push tables into an orderly arrangement.

·       Set chairs up to tables or where directed.  (We will notice how we found them in the morning). 

·       Look around to see that everyone has taken their things home.  We don’t want valuables left behind/lost.

·       We’d like to hear that you had a good time. 

·         Thank you for your help.

PRIZES GIVEN BY COUSINS

Albert Konsela is giving a handmade diamond willow cane, a set of knitting needles and a crochet hook which he carved of wood just as our dad made for our mother in the 50s. Exotic, hand-make and sustainable!!!

Barb Pogreba Pasala is giving a pumpkin shaped china soup tureen, a glass vase with colorful weights inside and a ceramic and glass 3-tiered cookie display tray, made by an artist friend.

Beverly Thoma Keltner is giving a hand-hooked rag rug which she hand-crafted using the skills she learned from her mother who learned from Grandma Konsela.  She is also giving home-made wine with a special-edition label.  The label includes the Konsela Cousins Gathering Logo, August 18, 2012.  What a remembrance of the day for the winner of the wine! 

Brian Konsela is giving a pair of iron horse shoes, "the best seat in the house" and a table made with his own hands. 

Mary Konsela is giving a doily which she made.

Myrna Konsela is giving twenty-four doilies which she made. She will also be giving 8 aprons, 8 family cookbooks, and three clothespin bags.  

Rosemary Thoma Niebauer has donated a photograph of the Konsela Farm House taken in July, 2012 by Bev Keltner.

Vicky Thoma Bautch has donated a table runner.

Preparing Decorations

A few Konsela cousins met at Al and Diane's house on Saturday and began preparing decorations for the Konsela Cousin Gathering.  It was like a mini reunion and what great fun we had!  We can't wait for "the real" Konsela Cousin Gathering on Saturday, August 18th in Arcadia.  Thank you Al and Diane for hosting this activity.
